I replaced an overflow tank on my 1995 Camry V6 LE a few years ago ( first time replaced). I was stuck on the highway the other day due to overheating. When towed to house later noticed crack on bottom of tank. This was not an OEM and I think it cracked since over the years I kept pushing it down since it would not seat right.

To fix

New OEM recovery tank.
New OEM grommet
New bracket that holds recovery tank in place.

Also replaced yellow antifreeze with Valvoline Zerex Asin.

To flush out everything use radiator drain but there is a drain for the engine block which has a few quarts inside. Keep flushing with distilled water until clear. Empty and fill with coolant. I use 50/50.

Note

Always used distilled or deionized water when flushing or making your 50/50 mix.

Minerals in tap water create a buildup and can clog ports and create scaling. It also impact the cars ability to cool the block.

 

I also noticed on the old overflow tank there were other cracks in the container and the dip tube looked like a wet noodle. The new container came with everything. I think it lost all it rigidness and possibly caused issues with allowing the antifreeze in and out of the overflow container.

One last thing its very hard to get the new OEM radiator cap on and off. Not sure why but fits. The old ones seals were bad.
