Default overheating

last week i smelled anti-freeze in my 1999 camry 2.2 automatic. noticed bubbling at the top and bottom seams of the radiator where the plastic meets the aluminum. replaced the radiator and let the level drop 2 times and topped off. didnt get 1/2 a block and the gauge went up to hot. what,s up?
