Default please..please...i am stuck at removing the gas tank

Hi there,
I have an evap leak from the vent hose to charcoal canister (2000 camry 4 cyl). So I am in the process of dropping the tank.

Seat removed, fuel pump removed, tank drained, exhaust removed, all pipes, hoses etc are removed. Tank is lowered 3-4 inches. And I see the black, vent hose to the charcoal canister on top of the tank and I cannot remove that connector (same connector at the charcoal canister end and that one also not budging).

Any idea to remove this? I have been trying various things for 3-4 hours and cannot figure out how to remove that line. A toyota mechanic at the dealer told to insert 2 screwdrivers and pry it open. I tried that too and still no luck.
I tried pinching the marked area and pull, but the access is so limited, it is still not releasing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Money is very tight and have to get this car running by tomorrow. So either I fix this leak or put everything back and forget it for now.

please...please...

John

Try pushing the connector on the hose forward as in trying to push on the connector. Push the connector as far as it will go.

Then squeeze on most forward portion of connector where the red lines on.

That didn't work. Apparently you need a special tool (per dealer). They suggest to use two small screw drivers wedge between the tabs and pry open, at the same time pull out. I couldn't get the second screw driver because of low clearance. In the end, I end up removing the canister along with the tank and then on the ground, used two screw drivers to pry open and it worked. Squeezing the connector made no impact, could be because it is almost 12 years old.

Thanks for posting back with your results. Good you got it unplugged.

Toyota may have a tool but owners who do their own repairs don't have them.
