Question Throttle position sensor

Im having an issue during acceleration. If I hold the accelerator at a steady spot, the engine will lack power at first, and then the power comes surging back. I was thinking that the TPS might be sending a weaker signal than it should. Is this likely?? I was told by a reliable friend that this is the issue and its worth it to have a brand new sensor installed anyway, it is a 19 yr old Camry with 177000 mi...

A problem TPS can cause hesitation.

It happens the sensor can have one position where there is a bad connection. Does the problem occur at all throttle pedal locations or just one?

It was in any spot of the throttles range. I went to a junkyard and got one out of another gen 3 and it fixed the problem right away. smooth sailing!!
