Hello All. I'm new to the forum. I hope I can be a contributing member for the future. Right now, I'm experiencing a strange issue with my 2001 Camryand I'm not sure how to fix it.

I'm getting the following symptoms:

Sometimes, while I'm driving, my stereo deck turns off, like it isn't getting enough power. This happens if I have been coasting or stopped for a while. As soon as I step on the gas, it turns back on. This has happened in the past, and it was due to a dying battery.

Sometimes my car won't start, as if it is getting no power from the battery. When I open the hood and remove or touch the red cap over the terminal, my alarm goes off. I can then unlock the car to turn off the alarm, and the car starts fine.

This all leads me to believe that the connection to the battery isn't very good. The clamps around the post seem to be tight, so I'm not sure what could be causing this, other than a bad wire.

Any ideas?

 

Most likely there is a poor connection between the red capped terminal and the battery lug. Or between that battery cable and the battery terminal.

The alarm will activate if battery power is disconnected the reconnected. Your moving the red cap is causing the battery to be disconnected.

A poor connection can also cause starting issues.

Suggest an internet search on cleaning battery terminals, then clean them.
