Default '96 interior seems cheap

We have a '96 Camry (175,000 miles) with a light brown interior and it seems more cheaply built than the interior in our '93 Camry (298,000 miles) with dark purplish interior. The '96 only has 1 interior door handle left and the dash is already starting to fade. Is it the color or is it just not as well made? We've replaced both front seat door handles and they're already starting to show their age again.

The 93 and 96 were the same generation. Have not know too many owners to have issues with either car. Toyota did not start lowering standards until into years 2000ish when they decided to gain global market share and needed to get the price down.
