'99 Camry 2.2 starting problems
Hi Guys,
I need some help with my car. Recently I replaced the engine in my car (2.2 5SFE), because I had main bearing issues. After the replacement, the "new" engine is not starting, however it was running before removed from the original car.
I have fuel at the fuel filter (I assume AC pressure is ok). I removed the air filter. Timing should be correct. I replaced the parts of the timing and set it to position before installing the engine to the car. I removed one-by-one the sparkplugs and checked for spark. The crank- and camshaft position sensor should be ok because both of the engines ran before the work. But I checked them and the resistances are in spec. I checked the wiring harness and everything is connected. No fault code in the ECU. The battery was fully charged before the start.
Unfortunatelly I have no more ideas what could be the problem. The car is cranking, but can't start.
Is there any trick with the starting if the ECU was disconnected from the wiring harness before (the battery was removed during the ECU disconnection and connection).
Thank you in advance for your help!

What year and model of car did the replacement engine come out of?
Did you do a straight swap or remove the sensors, etc. from the old engine and put them on the new one?
Besides the bearing issue did the old engine run when in the car?
Does the car have an anti-theft system?
Are the injectors working when the engine is cranking over?
Have you checked for blown fuses?
If the timing belt was changed this might be a place to look.
No tricks to starting if ECU was disconnected when un-powered but the idle can have issues for a time.

You just made my day!!! Outstyanding breakdown of the starting ciruits and step by step no les. Our next door neighbor needs a newer car from her 96 Camry. Wepre trying to get it to start consistently, but the only thing that works is repeatedly "toggling" the key back and forth rapidly and eventually it will start. Got a new battery in it. The click I hear seems to come from the passenger side of the engine compartment when I'm sitting in the drivers seat. We'll do the diagnostic and go from there.....and yes the srter relay is pretty stuborn. I wanna have a new one in my had before I pry the old one out.....lol. Film at 11...
