I have a 2005 Camry 4cyl. It has 190k miles on it. Had the CEL come on and went to Advanced, did the OBD and it came back with the P0420 "Catalyst Efficiency Below Normal (Bank 1)" error.
I am not about to pour 600-1500 into this vehicle if I need a new catalytic converter.
I tried Cataclean as directed (bottle in gas when 1/4 full), drove for 30+ miles, then filled up. CEL still on.
I am curious if the CEL is just not going off because I need to tick it off and see if it comes back. I tried pulling / resetting every fuse noted with ECU (see attached image) but CEL remains. Is there a better way to reset (other than resetting with OBD tool ... and would Advance let me do this?)
Should I blow another $30 on a second bottle of Cataclean? FYI, I have probably been driving this with the CEL on for approximately 4-5 weeks. I am not feeling any effects (mileage, driving etc).
Is this car registered in California or another state the requires only state approved converters to be used? If not, buy an aftermarket converter on the internet and install it yourself. It's a bolt on job.
To reset you need an OBDII tool. Pulling fuses is not going to do it.
