Default Doors unlock while driving

While driving or stopped at red lights the locking feature on drivers side door wont work. I lock the doors simultaneously with the switch and they immediately all unlock. Is this the actuator? Or something about that ignition switch? This may be a red herring, but when I got the car there was steel wool smooshed around the door latch. I removed it eventually and I’m not really sure of the onset of this problem after that. I didn’t lock doors much when alone. I haven’t used the keyfob in a few years, could a dead fob influence this? Also the key is plain metal and not the plastic-ended one I lost. Could no transponder effect this or would that strictly be a non-start issue?
Thank you!

Year of car?

Each door has a switch in the door jam that tells the locking system if that door is closed. Check the door switches to make sure they work.
