Update, took it to auto glass store again and they said motor is fine, so is regulator. It's the switch, so making calls to see how much that will cost. will try junk yards too.

 

You can buy a regulator with or without motor on the internet, Ebay, etc.

 

After all this, it turns out that the driver's side master switch was locked so nothing would operate on the passenger side. Just having a bit of problem with getting the panel back on. But the window goes up and down!

Thanks! Sometimes it helps to come here and vent a bit while we at home are still working it out on our own. I can't find the "Solved" button here, but this is now solved

 

I spoke too soon. The window worked perfectly for one day. then yesterday I rolled down the window and then back up and it totally stopped. I think maybe the glass is warped. Windows are not cheap. Frustrated over this. If we can get it in the up position, then I'm going to leave it like that for the winter until I can get this done right professionally.

 

I've never heard of glass warping, I'd guess if the car was hit hard enough that the track might be bent or loose, the door bent internally, or perhaps a loose electrical connection in the motor circuit.

Either way, I suggest taking off the door panel again and see if you can spot something obvious. If you can get hold of a voltmeter, check for voltage at the motor with the switch on. Since the window worked ok for a while, it makes sense to first check the power circuit to the motor. If you get it working, leave the door panel off(if you can) and drive around for a week to be sure it's still fixed.

thanks John. It turns out that after housemate took of the door panel, he discovered that a bolt was loose and with the tension of the window going up and down for a day, that bolt was not tight enough to bring the glass window up and down. So he put on a different bolt. He re-glued the brackets, and we are waiting a few days to make sure it keeps working.
