Valve clearance is adjusted with shims. Once the cams are installed the clearance will need to be checked and adjusted as required.
Before removing the exhaust cam a service bolt should have been installed to tie the split cam sprocket together. Make sure the bolt is installed or install it per the directions in the manual.
The knock pin is the key way on the cam snout for the pulley to drive the cam. Lay the intake cam on the head bearing mounts with the key way positioned as shown in the manual.
Install the exhaust cam so the timing mark dots on the cam gears line up per the manual.
Each gear has two dots. The cams should be positioned so the lower dots are lined up and the upper dots will mess if the cams are rotated.
With the cams positioned as above install the bearing caps. SLOWLYand GENTLY start to snug down the bolts on the bearing caps in the sequence described in the manual. It is possible if the cams are not aligned perfectly they can bind in cam bearing journals. If too carried away on bolting things down and not observing carefully a cam can break in half.
Once the cams are bolted down remove the service bolt.
