Default 1995 Camry 4cyl Interferrence engine?

Is the 1995 Camry 4cyl engine and interferrence engine? I want to know the risk if my timing belt were to break.

Thanks,
David

Nope.. its a non-interference engine.

If it happens to break driving down the highway at 60+MPH is there still a chance of bending valves? One mechanic told me that in the process of the moving parts stopping that there could still be major damage. Is this true?

Thanks,
David

The issue of possible damage from a broken belt on this engine has been discussed a LOT. However have never heard of any 5S-FE engine having valve train damage when a belt broke, even when on the freeway.

Have heard of a broken belt wrapping around the water drive pulley and damaging the pump or some other parts.

Typically the belt just breaks and the engine dies.

The belts due break, when? If the belt is getting up in miles, say 150k would suggest you think about changing it or it might break leaving you stuck someplace.
