My car had a check engine code P0401. I replaced the EGR and the EGR Position sensor but the light came back on. Eventually I changed the VSV (Vacuum Switching Valve). The check engine light finally went out (immediately). The car has about 105k. The old VSV appears to be plugged. The replacement part was less than $20 on Amazon.
