I have a 2001 camry that won't go into any gear, the shifter moves freely. But it will not engage any gears. I just got the car from a friend. I'm hopping changing the speed senser from the code p0500 vehichel speed sensor will allow the torq converter to engage a gear. I know there's a chance my torq converter is out to but I'm hopping it's not that bad. Any ideas?

 

Determine if the shift lever cable is moving the shift lever on the trans and not broken.

Make sure the trans fluid level is correct.

The code is not going to prevent the trans from working.
