Default 2013 camry hybrid engine knock when accelerating

Hi,

I have 2013 camry hybrid le with 10,3000 miles on it. I believe it has 2AR-FXE engine.
I hear knocking sound when I accelerate the engine. It does not happen if I use high octane gas. But with regular 87 gas it happen when i accelerate hard. I have recently changed all 4 plugs and used injector cleaner but still same situation with regular gas. So far I am using high octane gas to avoid engine knocking. Please suggest a permanent solution. I did some research and found that timing needs to be retarded. Please help.

Your feedback will be appreciated. Thanks.

Try another brand of fuel.

Check the owners manual. It might state occasional knocking when accelerating or going up hill is normal.

The timing is set by the computer. The engine also has VVTi which varies cam timing. Changing timing is not possible.

If knocking started carbon may have built up on the pistons. You need to remove this. Read up on this on the internet.

Or use high octane.
