i have an 04 camry that is leaking oil. The Oil Pan was bent so i took it to brake masters to see if they could salvage it. They told me that they could bend it back so i paid about $390 got it all fixed. i bring it home and i let it sit about a half hour later there is a half quart of oil on the driveway. So i brought it back a bunch of times, and now they are telling me it is a crack in the lower half of the engine block, other mechanics are telling me it is not. Die didn't work, the crack has no die on it. only the pan. Is there any simple way to tell where its coming from?

Here is a picture of the oil pan and the "crack" right above it. on the right hand side of the picture.

 

If the engine is leaking that much oil when off would think it was the pan. When the engine is off, the oil would drain back into the pan. The oil level in the pan should be below the engine.

If area around the crack was not cleaned prior to the photo would appear it is not leaking. This much oil would leave a trail from the crack to the bottom of the engine where it drips to the ground.

You might call a few salvage yards to determine if you can buy an undamaged, replacement pan.

It is also possible the pan may have a small, hole or crack. This can be repaired.
