My engine light came on and I was told it was the egr valve. I just need to know is it the one on the left or right. I wanna take it off and clean it see if that helps. Also it will take awhile to get the gasket will it be ok to use the old one till the new one comes thanks

Go to the Autozone website at www.autozone.com. The site has vehicle repair guides that should provide good info on the EGR.

EGR cleaning is very common, do a Google search on our engine type. A 5S-FE.

As long as the old gasket does leak it should be fine.

The EGR valve is closest to the drivers side. The EGR modulator is closest to the passenger side. The VSV is behind the engine.

Suggest checking to make sure the VSV, modulator, etc is working. Often the VSV valve goes bad.

 

Ok now does anyone know the easiest way to get the bottom metal hose off the valve it looks tricky. thanks

 

Some folks have removed the throttle body for better access. Or try going in from under the car with a long extension and a few swivels joints.
