Hello, I drive a 2020 Toyota Camry LE with 104,000mi
My car's transmission would slip from time to time over the past week.
Yesterday I took my car into a shop to get the muffler chopped off to make the car sound a bit nicer (It sounds great) but after around 5-6 hours of driving, out of nowhere, i try to accelerate onto the highway from 25mph to a 55mph and the car is completely unable to go past 1k rpms. I am then met with a check engine light with the following message on the screen: A malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission has been detected.
Is anyone able to diagnose the problem here? I took it into a shop to get it looked at and the guy said I 100% need to get it replaced. Any recommendations on what I should do to avoid spending potentially thousands on a replacement? Do I need to drain and replace the transmission fluid? Thanks.

Here's what the muffler delete sounds like for those who may be curious
Your stating the ENGINE will not rev over 1000 rpm? If so does this happen in gear, neutral, park or when?
A bad trans typically results in the engine still being able to rev up to the max but the MPH does increase in proportion as in a slipping transmission.
Get the codes read!
DON'T take the word of one trans place as their default diagnostic can typically be needing a new trans.
If just eliminating the rear muffler should not connected to muffler unless something was damaged in the process such as wiring, sensor, etc.
The engine will not rev over 1,000 rpm while in gear, the transmission was slipping on me for a week or two prior, I'd be going 20-25mph and try to give the car more gas in order to speed up and it just wouldn't want to give the engine power and I'd be flooring it and staying at around 20-25mph.
as for the shop it's at right now, it's owned by one of my mom's close friend's son, so I'm pretty confident they're not trying to scam me or anything like that.
as for the muffler, I took it to a pretty reputable exhaust guy who's worked on similar vehicles for my friends and plenty others. I'm almost certain that he would've told me if he damaged a sensor/wire. @toyomoho
It is not the exhaust work that you had done that is causing the issue.
This was a preexisting tranny problem and is now really starting cause a fuss. Maybe the new exhaust made you a little rev happy or maybe not.
Like Joey said, get the codes read.
So, the engine CAN rev past 1K when NOT in gear as now in Park or Neutral?
Car could be in "limp home" mode. Read owners manual to see if the car has a limp home mode. This mode limits RPM to in theory protect the engine/trans while allowing some ability to drive the car. The code(s) can reveal the cause or help pinpoint the problem area.
Does seem strange for a 2020 with 102k to have a bad trans. Was the trans fluid ever changed yet Toyota claims the original fluid is good for 100K. Have the trans shop check for Toyota service bulletins as in the past they have had trans issues and not sure of current models..
