Default What wrong with the transmission ?

Hey everyone. I got a question for you guy. My car is Camry 1997. It has 158k miles right now. I bought it 2 years ago, around 137k miles. Now it has a big problem. I frequently not to ride this car because I had a new car, so I let it outside for someday which was snow and rain. But when I check back last week, the car cannot speed up. I put hard on the gas pedal, the car went up to 25mph with the engine went more 4000 rpm. If I slowly press the pedal, it might accelerate. Then I stopped and checked the transmission. I already changed the fluid from last 3 weeks. The fluid had some burn smelt, but it didn't dark at all. Before that, it had another problem: slow accelerate. For example, if the normal time to accelerate to 25 is 10s, it will take like 15s, but after that, the car can accelerate normally. So can someone give me idea about these thing. I don't know much about how to fix a car.

Guessing a problem with the torque converter.

Does the trans shift when speeding up?

I don't think so. Can you specific more? I asked my friends and they said that is a big problem and I might need to rebuilt or buy another engine.

The converter has a one-way clutch that can fail. The result is what you experience.

Is the trans fluid level OK. are you checking the fluid hot with engine running?

If the converter would need to fix or replace it which can be done without taking the trans apart although it would need to be removed.

The engine would be OK as it is not the problem.

I just changed the fluid last 2 week so it should be okay. But when I check with engine start, the fluid seems smelted like burned. So where is the converter and what range of cost to replace this ?

The converter is between the engine and transmission inside the bell housing. The trans needs to be removed.

Cost? Much of this is labor guessing 7 hours.
