Default When breaking, right before the stop there is noticable knock - is it normal?

I am new 2007 Camry LE owner and new member to this forum. I noticed when I am breaking, just before the car stops there is noticable knock. My guess it is related to gear switching, but it is just a guess.
Just wondering if it is normal, or if it is not - how it can be fixed?
It becoms quite annoying.

My car has relatively low milage - 40K and mechanic did not find any major problems (but he is not sure about this knock).

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
supri

If you think it is the trans move the selector into neutral before applying the brake.
