Default 1993 Camry engine replacement

I have a 1993 camry with the 3vz v6. I have a good deal on a 1mzfe engine out of a 1995. Was wondering if anyone new the troubles of interchanging these two?

I need a new engine =/

The swap has been done but I would not do it as may be more trouble then it it worth.

You will need a computer specific to the engine model, trans type, emission setup, etc plus the wiring harness.

I have a 93' LE that needs an engine. I am looking for a used one. Which years are compatible? Its a 2200 4 cyl.

Guessing at least to 98. You want an engine that still used a distributor which Toyota removed around 99ish.

Toyota changed the gear teeth number for the balance shaft gearing sometime in 94. Thus a crank from a later year will not mate to the earlier balance shaft gearing.

Use the lower end and and head from the replacement engine and swap all the old parts from the 93.

Default Read the warranty lots of differences

I had my engine rebuilt/remanufactured locally, used garage to pull and install engine. Many problems. Company that remanufactured the engine did a below average job, and the warranty changed, will fight that but, it still not worth the time.

Did a review of a couple warranties, today, and the revised warranty from where my engine was re-manufactured. a) Make sure there is a very high (at least the cost of the rebuilt engine) or no limit on labor charges, in addition to miles and years/time limit, b) make sure that there is reasonable per hour labor rate, I read in one warranty that labor rate (maximum) set by the re--manufactured engine company was to use $16.00 per hour, per AAA Auto Club the range of labor rates (August 2020) for my area was $46.00/ hr to $146.00/hr. Note the price on labor just to replace a timing belt is about $400.00 (labor only) and this is a "minor" repair, replacing the oil pan gasket is also about $400.00 (labor only). Just one repair or less will make the warranty meaningless on miles or years, if there is not a realistic limit or no limit on labor and or parts.

The company that rebuild my engine did NOT put sealant under the distributor side camshaft flange that secures the camshaft to the head, ask them to check the opposite side when they repaired or put sealant on this one flange. Six months later - oil leak on timing belt side, check camshaft flange on the timing belt side, re-manufacturer company did not check opposite flange for sealant. The owner stated on first repair distributor side camshaft flange that this flange was inside the valve cover (The valve cover goes over this/these camshaft flanges) on the 5S-FE engine ( 2.2 Liter)

The Gearhead re-manufactured engine does seem to have a good warranty, that does NOT have set a maximum on labor rate per hour, nor maximum number of hours.
