1994 Camry wont start
Hello,
I have a 94 Camry sedan with the 4 cylinder engine.
I suspect its not getting fuel. I have the rear seat cushion
pulled out and don't hear any sound from the fuel pump.
I do get voltage to the pump when cranking the engine.
However I don't get anything when first turning the key
to the run position. In any other fuel injected car Ive driven
the pump runs for a few seconds when turning the key to the
run position before advancing the key to start. Is the Camry
supposed to do the same?
Thanks

The electrical system allows the pump to only receive power when the engine is cranking or running.
Have you checked for ign spark when engine is cranking?
There is small plastic box in the engine compartment labeled "Diagnose or Diagnostic." Open the box, jump the FP and B+ terminals. This will bypass the fuel pump electrical controls and allow the pump to run with the ign switch on.

Thanks for the reply.
The engine checks ok for spark.
I pulled the rear seat cushion and checked for
voltage at the fuel pump motor wires. It does
receive voltage when I crank the engine.
With the seat cushion out should I be able to
hear the fuel pump motor running?
I'm not getting any sound from that area at all.

The fuel pump will only run when the engine is being cranked over or actually running.
There should be a small black plastic box in the engine compartment perhaps attached to the passengers side strut tower labeled "Diagnostic". Open the box lid and you will see electrical terminals. The under side of the lid has a key to what the terminals are.
You can jump start the fuel pump to run with the ign switch on by connecting the B+ and FP terminals with a section of electrical wiring.
Try starting the car with the fuel pump circuit jumped.
