1997 camry v6 acceleration issue
If the check engine light is not coming on when the car experiences the problems it can mean the problem area is not monitored by the ODBII system.
If it was a fuel system problem the check light might only come on when the problem caused a situation where the engine missed. The ECU picking up the cylinder miss.
Ditto for other problems.
Do a search on Toyota ODBII codes including transmission to get an idea of what is monitored.
In some cases a problem needs to occur several times over certain time period to set a code. Check for pending codes. If the problem resolves itself the code may be cleared.
Had a car once that would miss on occasion and the check light then came on. The miss went away after a few seconds and then the light turned off. It was an intermediate ign coil issue.
