1998 Camry XLE FOBS will not register Codes!!!!!

I have been waiting for the first of the year (2014) to buy Toyota parts, because they lowered their part prices, some as much as 30%. So we needed to get two more new FOB alarm key/remotes for our 98 Camry.
As I sat in the customer lounge waiting for them to code two more FOBS, a mechanic came in to tell me that the car is too old, and the remote Fobs, will not register the codes for my car. wait...WHAT??

Does anyone have a similar year, that has been told the same thing?

Three choices:
(1) Either pay for a new Toyota alarm ($800.00 plus)
(2) Go to an after market place, where they can piggy-back their alarm system to my Toyota.
(3) Do Nothing at all, and just use the car key to lock/unlock the doors, using no alarm at all.

 

I would look into ebay to find a fob close to your year car if you can't find exact. If you decide to buy on ebay, ask seller first if it will work with your year Camry and if not that you can return it.

 

There are also websites selling FOB's of all makes and years.

FOB design appears based on system being factory/OEM installed or dealer installed.
