1998 XLE Moon Roof will not close!
I got home, and tried to close the moon roof, but now it is shut tight, and will not completely close. I read the manual, and it showed fuse box, with the DOME fuse, so I was thinking either this controls only the DOME LIGHT, or the moon roof electronics. I hope this is not a dealer repair charge. Someone mentioned a screw driver, to move it along, it may be stuck.
I thought maybe if I disconnect the battery and reconnect, this may clear out computer codes, and might work, but with no visible fuses burned out, I am at a loss.
are there other fuse locations?

A Toyota Service Director neighbor friend told me there is clicking in the motor, but I need to bring it to a dealer, for this one.

$700 MOTOR, ....THAT'S WHAT THE SERVICE WRITER TOLD ME. BUT AFTER TALKING WITH THE SERVICE DIRECTOR, THE PRICE WENT HIGHER, ....$900.00 FOR THE MOTOR! ,IT WENT UP, from the discounted price of $900.00, and some change. he would not give me a deal on the price, or the oil change, except for a senior discount. . I had to get a loaner, and pay the gas, but i certainly hope, that mileage is NOT also charged on the loaner, as I am moving my sister out of her apt., and that's a 70 mile round trip times many trips.
My only two choices was to (1) Have them close it, water test it, but I will never use it again...$500.00. OR, (2) Completely replace the switch, motor, and the assembly tracking, and warranty for one year.
$1,100.00!!!!! Knowing that Toyota and all the other dealerships reply and depend on making all the money and profit, from the mark-ups they are allowed through, LABOR and PARTS! I am no position to afford this lofty price, and that this 21 year old, 1998 XLE,, (88K) he said was only worth $3,000!!!! THIS MOON ROOF COST TO FIX, IS ONE-THIRD THE VALUE OF THIS CAR????? UNBELIEVABLE!

Well, Well, Well, After two weeks of waiting for the dealership to order the parts, remove and replace, moon roof, switch, motor, and assembly track, for my 21 year old, 1998 Camry XLE, with 89,000 miles, only to tell me yesterday, that a part was discontinued, no longer available, so they are not charging me anything at all, except for the oil change,,and not the original $1,100.00 service charge, to do the work. Now, I have a moon roof, without the switch/motor, to open and close the glass moon roof, this way, I can only pull back, to see the sky, but I can never open that window ever again.. Thanks!

 

If you can DIY or have a mechanic, try Ebay for very reasonable used priced parts or a salvage yard.
