1999 4cyl Oil Pan Removal Obstacle
Hi,
I want to remove the pan from the engine and I cannot see the (presumably) two bolts nearest the transmission because a foam-cushion-like-thing is completely in my way. I thought it might be attached to what I could call a lower flywheel housing cover and I removed all the bolts I could see holding it on but that doesn't want to move very much. I am about ready to just cut the foamy thing off but perhaps someone here knows a better way??
Thanks!

Try to make what slide down?
I believe there are 17 bolts holding the pan on, and 15 are no trouble. The two nearest the transmission I cannot see because of a piece of foam glued to someplace undetermined. I tried to remove the lower flywheel housing cover because I think that the foam is glued to that and removed all the bolts I think are holding it in place. I think it would be great if that slid down but it barely moves. Maybe it is pinched and I should try jacking the transmission up a bit and see if it moves better.
I was hoping someone had a manual that mentioned any helpful info.
I will be starting a different thread on the reason I need to remove the pan. I would put it here but it needs a different title as it is an unusual problem and this post is about a more ordinary question.
Thanks!

You need to remove the front exhaust pipe then No 2 exhaust manifold stay and left hand stiffener bracket bracket then exhaust pipe bracket, oil pan insulator and No 2 rear end plate
Might be 17 bolts and 2 nuts.
The pan gasket could be be form in place gasket material requiring the pan to be forcible separated form the block like the drawing posted by Go-Part
