Hi , first post on the forums. I` ve got a 2000 Camry LE with 95k on it and today I noticed while getting on the fwy when giving it a decent amout of throttle where the car would normally downshift and go into passing gear the car was just verysluggish and then would eventually pickup speed. I drove it around town and the car did the same thing , I would jump on the gas and instead of downshifting it`s just a slug. The check engine light did go off that time so I drove home and shut it off for about 15 mins,then went for another short ride and of course same thing but no check engine light this time. I`m not very mechanically inclined so I hope I explanined this without confusion. It`s the only car we have to cart our son around in so I`d hate to tell my wife it`s safe to drive and it`s not. Can you tell if it's not downshifting from OD to 3rd, or not downshifting into any lower gear? Can you click the OD off switch and get it to downshift? Usually first thing to check is trans fluid level. Check hot or cold with engine at idle. There will be a hot and cold level line.
