2001 Camry 4cyl Valve Adjustment
2001 4cyl Camry 105,000 miles, Loud Valve train and was advised it would be smart to check the valve clearance first by a smart person on here.
The valves measured as follows. 3 intake valves measured .010-.012 and 1 intake valve measured .011-.013.
3 exhaust valves measured .015-.017 and 1 exhaust measured .016-.018. Are these out enough to make valve noise? Thank You in advance.

RE: 2001 Camry 4cyl Valve Adjustment
Intake should be 0.007-11, exhaust 0.011-15 inch.
The engine will make valve noise even when set to the proper clearance. A wider clearance will just increase this noise.
Use a section of rubber hose as a stethoscope, determine if the noise is valve train (check the areas where the clearance is largest) or injectors (can also make noise).

RE: 2001 Camry 4cyl Valve Adjustment
My 95 Camry is a lot quieter than the 2001 and the 95 doesn't make a ticking noise. Both are 4cyl. I'm hoping that the valves being out of adjustment is what is making the ticking. I will try using the rubber hose as you suggested. Thanks!
