Default 2003 Carmy LE Exterior Door Handle Repair. Help Please.

Friday morning after leaving the gym I pulled the handle right off of my driver's side door. After looking at myself in the mirror I'm convinced that it has absolutely nothing to do with my manly physique. Nevertheless even after a day and a half I find it is an extreme nuisance to have to open my door from the inside. I need a fix.

I'm sure the the repair is quite simple but I'm not certain whether there are Torx screws involved or not. I used to have the repair manual pdf on a thumb drive but alas it was lost in a tragic Maytag incident.

I've searched the internet for hours and frankly I just want to get to watching college football!!

If you can help me with a walk-through, another repair manual (pretty please?), or point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated!

Why I'll even document my fix an post it here in the DIY section as an expression of my thanks.

Yours truly,

Dan

Send private message with email address for pdf file.

You will need a Torx T30 driver.

Might be the same as the front door handle.

Check for a plug on the side of the door at the same height of the handle. If so remove the plug.

Use a T30 Torx wrench with a long shaft to unscrew the set screw on the handle and remove the outside handle (lock portion).

The remaining handle may slide back toward the now open space and come out. The handle has hooks at each end to engage the lock motor on the other side of the door panel.

The handle has a wiring harness and plug that needs disconnecting, watch for this.
