So my automatic 2008 Toyota Camry has been stalling on me for the past 3 weeks. The cars been serviced, I got a new battery and there’s even no error codes to suggest the problem.

My mechanic was fully aware of this issue before I got it serviced which included new oil, air filter, etc and the only problem he could find was “loose battery terminals” When I got it back that week it stalled on me again but this time it the engine wouldn’t turn over much like having a dead battery which isn’t the problem because the battery is a couple days old.

So after the car stalling after my service I called road side assistance which I have a membership with. The man that came out told me it can’t be my alternator because the battery is at a perfectly good level for a new one.

His diagnosis what that there’s a build up of carbon on the idle up device. After telling me this he towed the car to their mechanic and told me it’s “loose battery terminals”

And finally this morning when I thought I was in the clear it didn’t stall but I could feel it struggling.

A very important thing to note here is it only happens in the morning and when I’m going very slow in my gyms car park to park my car. Once it stalls I loose control over steering and acceleration but every light on my dash all come on so there’s isn’t a specific light that comes on which would be nice to tell me the problem.

I’m at my wits end here and any help would be appreciated.

 

Does the engine just die when motoring along?

Explain engine does not over.

How is the engine idle? Normal, rough, low/high RPM?

Is the battery light on?

Did the mechanic check the alternator for proper operation. Alternators don't like it when the battery cables are disconnected or loose. It can cause the alternator to fail either full or partially.

 

It was helpful for me. That hose clamp was not easy to get to😄. It’s running better now, no stalling.
