Default 93 Camry Stop Light Lamp Sensor

My wifes 93 Camry stoplight and tailights don't work. The stop light in the back window does. Flasher, Signal, headlights etc. work. I checked fuses under hood and behind dash. All good. There is a little yellow box that is accessed inside the left side of the trunk. This might be the problem.. Problem is it costs 190$ and its main function is to report to the driver when a bulb is not working. I checked ground with my gauge and that seems ok. Does anyone recognise the problem and have suggestions? Is there a way to bypass this box? Is there a simple aftermarket plugin?.. Am I on the wrong track? Heeellp!
