Default 95 camry starting problems

I have a 95 2.2l. Occasionally (weather it be hot or cold , been sitting or just ran) my car does not want to turn over. When I turn the key I get power and the starter wants to turn over but does not catch or it does catch for just a second and then immediatly stalls. I can always get it to start if i turn it over, rev the engine and very quickly get the car into drive before the rpms fall below idle. It is a very quick move in order to do this but it always works. After I get it to start like this I can turn the car off and its starts back up. I have noticed that this only happens (so far) when the car has just less than a 1/4 tank of gas.

I will asume that the battery and alternator are fine since it will start and I seem to have no light dimming ever. I assume that the car has a spark since again it will run fine with no misfires or stutters. The only thing I can think of is a fuel delievery problem. I have not " listened" for the fuel pump to come on, but the car does start eventuallyso it should be getting fuel right? maybe it is not sprking at low rpms? Could this be a coil problem but then would this not happen constantly?any suggestions would be great. thanks.

Might be low fuel pressure/vapor lock. When the engine is off, the fuel pressure leaks down in the lines. Possible fuel pump issue.

Or the IAC valve needs cleaning.

Can you keep the engine running by just using the throttle?

i also have a starting problem for a 95 LE: what do i need to check past the battery?
would an empty transmission-no fluid, have a factor for such start?
other info: i just bought this car used not even a year ago from a toyota dealer.
thanks.

Default 95 camry le starting problems: update

the car is in the shop right now: they replaced the starter and charged me $200 for the whole thing BUT there's another issue, it may need a timing belt replacement and possibly a new engine depending on what they find when they look further as there is no engine compression and still doesn't start: this is what I understood. Just bought this car as previously mentioned for $3K not even a year ago. A suggestion I got was to have the belt replaced and hope for the best.

Should I have the belt replaced and disposed of the car or should I keep it?

That engine is a non-interference engine, so if the timing belt breaks then no damage to engine. I'd get the TB fixed and take compression, if ok then keep the car.
