Default Auto-dimming rear-view mirror install question

Does anyone know how to remove the overhead console unit (containing sunglass holder, map lights, and moonroof switch) on an '04 Camry? I would like to install an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and I need to get to the wiring.

I can't figure out how to remove this unit. Are there any tricks?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I solved my own problem. Simply grab the part of the map light/sunglass holder assembly nearest the window and pull down hard. There are two tabs that hold the unit into the roof and once free of the tabs, it will rotate downward. The tabs snap into metal clips that are installed into the metal roof frame of the car. In my case, these metal tabs acted like springs and are now lost forever inside of the car's metal roof tubing along the frame of the window. There is seemingly no way to access them. I'm not impressed with the engineering, but my problem is solved.

You might be able to fish those clips out with one of those small extendable magnets. Some call them mechanic's magnet...

Default RE: Auto-dimming rear-view mirror install question

I have a 2007 Camry LE (no sunroof).

I was wondering if I can still install the auto dimming mirrors.

Also, I saw on one site some installations affects the curtain airbags?

Anyone have any comments?

Thanks.
