I just ordered front and rear brake pads, I was just wondering if anyone replaced their pads, on a camry 2006 or similar car brakes. And how difficult it was, and is there anything I should be aware of? Have a good one!

 

If you have done brakes before, then this should be pretty straight forward.
You shouldn't any special tools, just the normal stuff.
Are you having the rotors resurfaced? Or are you replacing them?

 

The caliper piston will need to be pushed back into its housing to allow the new and thicker pad to install. Suggest not allowing the brake fluid to back flow into the brake system as this might cause future problems with the ABS system.

Instead when pushing the piston back, loosen the brake bleeder valve (connect a hose to valve nipple) and discharge the excess fluid into a container.

To prevent brake squeal, apply anti-squeal brake grease to the shim area facing the metal metal backing plate of the pad.

Brake grease is high temp grease designed for this type of application. Don't use regular grease.

After the job is complete top off brake fluid as required.

Do only one brake at time to allow reference to the other side if a problem in reassembly.

 

I just got my front and rear brake pads from Toyotapartsdealer.com, and my friend says it gots drum, would anyone know for sure whats it got? i haven't got under it yet again, it looks like rain, lol. but I would like to know sometime before tomorrow so I can let him know what I am dealing with. thank you.

 

The type of rear brake depended on the cars options. The basic 4 cylinder had drum brakes.

Did you give the dealer the cars VIN number or state the details of the car, such as 4 cylinder LE, XLE, etc? If so, you should have the correct brakes.

 

I did , and toyotapartsdealer.com, sent me both disc front and back. I have to get back with them.

 

Did you provide the VIN at checkout or call them up and confirm the parts match the VIN.

You can always reach around the tire and feel for a drum or disk. Or use a flashlight and look through the holes in the rim.
