I'm looking at set of brake pads for my wife's 04 Camry and a search on several sites including Tirerack mention 2 different sets or types for the rear, one for Japan built and one for U.S. Does this pertain to where the car was assembled or the brakes themself?

its asking where was the car built. look in the vin number. if i starts with and number (4 i think) its usa j would be jap.

 

Check the vehicle id by the drivers' side door- it'll say where it was made.
