Default Idle issue I think

I've had my 89 Camry for a year now and never had a problem starting up til today. It would turn over then die instantly. I got it to start by giving it has but still wanted to stall. Now I'm siting here with engine off and can smell gas. Can't see any leaks in the ground but have a feeling it's fuel related. Maybe the filter? Any help would be great. Thanks!

If you are smelling gas check for leaks first. Gas evaporates quick so you might need a buddy to keep the engine from dying while you look under the hood. Also, please be careful when looking around under the hood with a gas leak, if that is what it is.

Let us know if you find anything. The gas smell could also have been from starting the car with the gas peddle pressed resulting in some flooding.

Cool I will. Don't think it from that I only did it a few times to get it started and now that it's starting normal again I don't give it gas and I can still smell it. Will take a look at it as soon as possible. It's not my primary car so it's just gonna sit for a few days til I get some time to take a good look. Thanks again for the help

You might have been smelling a rich gas mixture issue, if so it is coming out the tail pipe. This could cause odd rpms.

Sounds like it has gone away? Or you are still smelling the gas, it's just starting fine? I am chasing down something similar, so I'll post up here what I find.
