Default Need help with 98 Camry security system

Greetings, new guy here. I have a 98 Camry that has only one key, so I went to the auto parts store and had a duplicate made. I started the car w/it and right away it died. The owners manual tells me the car is now "inopt". I still have the original key, but the car still shuts down even w/the original. What do I do? I thought surely the system would recognize the orig. key, but it doesn't. What I find on line is many different senerios, most costly but none addressing the fact that I still have the original key, or why it won't work.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Does the key have a transponder in it. I didnt think they were making those for a camry in 1998. Sounds like a fuel pump relay of some sort of injector problem

Default Got her running!!!!!

Here's what I did. When I arrived at work (where the car was at); I disconnected the battery. I let it sit all day, being I work a 12 hour shift. After work, I connected the battery, inserted the orginal key & turned it on only as far as the accessory position. I left it alone for about 10-15 mins, figuring the system may be identifying the key. I jumped in, and cranked her up. It kept running....YAHOO! No more duplicate keys that are not from Toyota. Now, I have to spend a few bucks and get the real McCoy. I had read so many horror stories on line, talking about having to "re-progam" the system through Toyota costing mega dollars. Thankfully it never came to that.
