rpm vs mph
so I am new to driving a toyota, my other cars have been FORD's and Dodge. So just wondering what rpm is normal for driving 60mph? Today I took my 93 camry for a safety and this was my first time driving it, at 60mph I was right around 3000 rpm, is this right? Or should I see the tranny shift into OD and the rpm's lower?
I forget what this ratio would be but,
3000 RPM is too high.
The auto trans has 4 speeds including O/D. Make sure the trans is shifting through all 4 gears.
The torque converter should also lock up after a certain speed. The result is the RPM will drop say 300.
If the trans gear shifter column in the car has a button, make sure it is pushed in. When driving at speeds over say 40 mph, you should be able to turn off the lockup with the switch and watch the RPM increase. If the button does nothing (the engine is warm, driving at higher speeds then school zones) something may be wrong with the lockup circuit.
The dash board also has a light to indicate the switch is in the off position.
