slow acceleration 99 Camry 2.2L 120k
Just bought a 99 Camry with 120k for my son. I am not expecting a race car but when I hit the gas not much happens. I am not sure if this is typical or if something is not quite right in the 4 cyl engine. No check engine light, gets decent mpg and it drives pretty good once I get it moving. Once I get it going, it revs up to 3000 - 4000 rpms under moderate acceleration, which seems high. It makes our Honda Civic and Nissan Sentra seem quick. Plugs and wires are new. Would I be able to tell if one of the ignition coils were bad or weak? Thanks, Dave

What is the overall MPG city/hwy?
0-60 mph times for the optional V-6 engine is 8.5 secs, the 4 cylinder will be greater.
When accelerating from a stop, does the RPM rev up as if lack of power or trans is slipping?
If motoring alone and given full throttle, the trans should drop a gear (kick down) and engine RPM pick up.

Mpg is about 30 with mostly highway driving. The engine does not respond much when accelerating from a stop, once it gets going the rpms jump up fairly quickly. I don't think there is a transmission problem, the engine is just seems to be struggling to get the car moving initially. If I floor it from a stop not much happens for several seconds.
