Starup Problems
I have a toyota camry (I don't know the year at the moment, I always end up forgetting, but I can find out... but I don't know if this problem is only for that year... hell, if it is then people will prolly know what it is)
Okay... so here is the deal.
Sometimes my car runs fine. Hell, it runs awesome. It's a great car, gets good gas mileage, and everything.
One day the dashboard lights went out, the only lights left on were the clock. So driving at night the dashboard lights were out, and the radio lights were out (I also found out that the parking lights were out too). I got those fixed though. Now there isn't a problem with them (to my knowledge).
Unfortunately, around that time the car started doing something strange. Some days when I would go out to start the car (and the day before it was running fine), the engine would sound like it wanted to start (it'd go riririririririri... ya know, the noise a car generally makes before it goes barumph and the engine is running all nice and everything). It would keep making the noise, but would not turn over completely so that it was ready to go off and drive.
We brought it to the mechanic.
He kept it for two weeks, and actually said 'I don't know' when we asked what the problem was.
I got in the car, it started up no problem.
Then it ran for about a week... then one day (of course when I was housesitting), I went to start it up to go home, and the same thing happened. I had a friend come get me, and when I was brought back the next day, I tried to start it, and lo' and behold it started without a problem at all.
I make sure not to keep any lights on.
It has gas, and oil.
I've even tried to attach jumpers to it, to see if it needed a charge (the battery was new... got it in October 2008).
One day it just WON'T start up... and then, without doing ANYTHING, it starts up fine the next day.
Can anyone give me at least a little hint to what is going on with my car? And not just an 'I don't know'.
Please and thank you!!

Can you clarify?
When the engine does NOT start it still turns over?
The cranking speed (RPM ) is the same when the engine starts or does not start? When the engine does not start it does not crank over slower?
What year of car and engine type, 4 cylinder or V6?
Does the car have what Toyota calls an immobilizer type theft prevention system.
Does the ign key have a microchip?
