Default Transmission Slips in Reverse

Hello All,

Just aquired a 1990 Camry, V6 with an automatictransmission that slips in reverse. Don't have any more detail than that.

Questions:
1. Are there any known problems that would explain this condition?
2. Can anyone recommend a diagnostic procedure?

Thanks,
Dave

Not sure I can help, especially on a 91. I've checked my 95 manual and reverse seems to engage through shift solenoids 1&2 and the lockup solenoid. Does the 91 have a trans MIL light function through the O/D light? To testthe solenoidsyou will have to remove the oil pan. Do you want to do this or will you just take it to a shop?
