The grommet presses into the chassis metal by hand.

The grommet installs with its legs going into the chassis hole from the side that any part will bolt to it.

The flange on the grommet prevents it from going all the way through the hole and the square hole keeps it from rotating when a fastener is installed.

The part that bolts to the grommet butts up against the flat side. When the fastener is installed the two legs of the grommet expand to keep it from pulling out of the hole.

You can't access the grommet by dropping the shield?

I was trying to avoid dropping the shield, someone told me to try putting a skinny screwdriver up in the hole to pull it out?

The shield might take 10 minutes to take off.
