Default Urgent Help Needed - Car Won't Start ('97 Camry)

'97 Camry LE, I4, Auto, 185k, has been running flawlessly since getting it this summer with 183k. No knocks, ticks or rattles, incredibly tight, rides like a new car. We love it!

Wife drove my daughter to school today (less than 1 mile RT, it was raining). Car started right up, normally. Then she drove home. It's raining here but I don't think she went through any deep water. I'll check. Two hours later, car is completely dead. No headlights, nothing electrical. She recalls that when she went to start it, she heard the 'normal' sounds the car makes (chime, etc.) for a split second, then nothing. Not a shred of anything powered is evident - no clock, lights, nothing. Not even dim.

I'm thinking catastrophic battery failure (it's been replaced since new but it is old looking.) Where do I begin my troubleshooting?

TIA,

-kj-
