I recently had my car fail the emissions for high level of Nox. I had the EGR valve replaced almost one year ago. I also had a transmission put in also. Is there anything I can do to get my car to past?

What were the actual emissions numbers?

 

1992 4cylinde-2200 engine - 1220 910 1095 1006

 

N0x is a result of high combustion temps or failed converter.

Items to check:

Engine coolant system is operating OK, engine not running hot.

Engine is not running a lean mixture. No vacuum hose leaks, etc. How does the engine run?

Ign timing is OK.

02 sensors working OK. Has the MPG dropped?

EGR valve problems. Note: EGR system is off at engine idle. If N0x is high at idle speeds then would look at a bad converter.

fail for NOX, on most cases is due to a inoperative EGR system , bad cat converter will do it too but cat converter will go if problem is ignored for a long period of time .
toyomoho list is also a high potential problem .

the best way to determinate if egr valve work is applied vacum to it when engine is at idle, a good egr flow will shut down the engine wild doing this ,(it means egr flows ) if engine dost't shut of or a least runs very rough egr is not doing its job ,possible problems bad egr valve , clogged egr tubes .If engine shuts off on this test problem is on the activation side of the egr system ,posible problem /egr vsv ,torn or clogged egr system vacum hose ,bad vacuum modulator valve, no vacum ,ecm .
