2001 swap on 2.2
Howdy forum I have a question Im notsure about like some advice if possible Im going wrecking yard ar
t pjck n pull gonna do best job I can at picking decent motor to get me by for a while with that said I'm going apples for apples on swap but do I need to grab ECU at same time that's what I'm unsure of since my scanner don't have the ability to go into that level of ecu and with that said im really not even sure about key either its not a smart key thank god only seperate alarm factory on car so the ecu is my worry any advice would be much appreciated oh by the way anybody have a service manual on swpping motor on this car

The internet would have photos of 2001 Camry "smart" keys. They call it a keyed transponder (smart as in chipped) and non-transponder (not smart, no chip).
The ECU is programmed to the engine model, year, auto/manual trans, emissions spec met, etc.
A bigger issue when swapping engines of the same model is Toyota made changes over time. This may extend to having two different emissions model of the year as is in the California emission spec model and the Federal spec model. Some changes would require a different ECU. 2001 was the last US Camry to use the 2.2 four cylinder.
The 2001 had a returnless fuel system to the fuel rail, improved ign using pick up sensors, different cylinder head and intake manifold.
