Yes, I've seen people use Dupli-color pen on You tube. Wondered if anyone had other tricks they have used for a black car.

If you go to the Dupli website there are complaints that the color does not match.
Toyota sells touchup paint plus a topcoat as the cars paint has both.

Research drcolorchip.com for their kits.

When using touch up paint do a test for color matching first.

Doubt you will able to blend the repair to a point you can’t see it if you look, however black paint hides problems well.

Make sure the chipped area has not started to rust and if so you will need to clean out the rust or neutralize it. There are chemicals which will neutralize rust.

Clean the area with a mild solvent such as alcohol to remove any dirt and oily debris.

To apply the paint look into using a thin pointed micro brush that artists use. This will allow better control of where the paint is applied. Apply the paint in coats to build it up to the thickness of the paint on the car.

The paint has a clear coat and here adjust total paint and clear coat to try to have a repair at the same level as that on the car.

If you end up needing to wipe excess new paint off the old use a clean nonabrasive cloth and not paper towels or toilet paper that are abrasive.

Some people apply masking tape over the chip area and gentle remove the tape in the area of chip. This keeps any applied paint of the old paint. However if your careful, one can keep the new paint off the old without masking.

The goal is to limit the repair to that of the chipped area and not expand it onto to the paint on the car, as in keep the repair local.

A restoration expert might be able work the repair to a point one would need to look to find it. This would require polishing the applied clear coat with a MILD abrasive until it blends in. The issue is as a novice one might expand the size of the work area making it more obvious.

Practice on a piece of metal to get an idea of how the paint and top coat covers, flows, dries and matches the color of the paint on the car. Then find a chipped location on the car which is hidden from view and practice there. When you are confident move to the chipped area you want to repair.
