Exclamation Technical Problem: 1994 Toyota Camry 2.2L LE (Advanced Owners Only)

My car is idling poorly and it throws out the CHECK ENGINE light code 71. Pretty sure it has a problem in the EGR system. EGR Valve or Modulator? To say, the EGR Modulator Filter is beyond cleansing.

Yep, Toyota TCCS code 71 is the EGR temp sensor. The valve may not be opening due to a bad valve or modulator, a bad vacuum switching valve, a plugged throttle body orifice, the passage may be clogged, or the sensor itself could be bad.

If you can gain access a good trick for cleaning EGR passages is to take a short section of old speedo cable or wire rope from the hardware store and chuck it up in an electric drill. Fray the end of the wire, shoot some cleaner in, and have at it ala rotor rooter. Works great.

this was from another forum hope it helps

When I start my car in the morning, the car gives off a bold smell of gas. Would that be the modulator?
