16 X 7 Lexus wheels on a 1993 Camry - having a problem!
Hey fellas, just joined and I'm having a problem with my 93 Camry. I bought some 1996 Lexus SC400 16X7 rims and tires off ebay a few days ago and put them on last night. Everything I've read online states that the 93 Camry can tolerate up to 18X8s and the Lexus bolt patterns and offsets are the same. I got the wheels on and everything seemed fine in my garage. When I went for a test drive, it appeared that the right rear wheel was contacting the body (probably the rear suspension), I drove the car down the block and back and I was getting a distinct rubbing noise and eventually a burning smell from the right rear wheel. The left rear wheel seemed okay. When I popped off the lug nut cover, I noticed I didn't tighten the lug nuts on that wheel. I tightened them (without raising the car), but the problem remained. It appears the shock absorber is very close to the tire. Could the untightened lug nuts be the problem? Should I have raised the back wheel and then tightened? I'm wondering whether the wheel isn't flush with the hub and that's the cause of my problems.....
It would be great if I could get some feedback before I get off work so I can get my game plan together. Thanks, guys!
