Default 99 Camry - Suggestiosn for towing

I've got a 99 Camry I use for towing a travel trailer, the trailer is well withing the recommended weight for towing, but over the years the rear end has gotten lower and lowe and lower - now I actually have to jack up the car by the tow hitch to be able to seat the trailer and lift the from trailer wheel to the stowed position.

So, I obviously need new springs, and probably shocks as well.In that vein though, if I'm going to replace them I want to raise the back end of the car up about 1.5 -2" in order to make attaching the trailer an easier job. Does anyone have a suggestion about better/stronger/higher springs for the back end?

Thanks in advance.

for some reason, ive heard that with the 99 Camrys if you change the suspension to anything but factory, it will ride terrible. Even with the TRD supsension you will get worse results, so your better off sticking to the factory suspension. [sm=imsorry.gif] What you would want to do if you plan on towing the trailer is to install load leveler springs. Just dont expect it to ride as smooth as it used to.

Thanks for the response Octa. I'm not tremendously concerned about ride quality minus the trailer - when it's not towing my son drives it, heh heh.

Good suggestion, and I'll give it a shot.

When towing the trailer, arrange the loading to make sure the hitch weight is not excessive.

Thanks toyomoho. We've been towing it for a while, and only recently has it been giving me trouble by sitting to low when I'm trying to hitch the trailer. Most of the weight sits towards the back, the travel trailer was designed to be towed by smaller vehicles so we're pretty safe in that respect.

Welby, can you give any weight or size info on the trailer you pulled with your Camry? I'm considering pulling a tent trailer (1,200 lbs) with my 2002 4 cyl Camry and would appreciate any feedback on how your Camry performed.
