steering wheel shaking problem on 99 camry
hey guys i got some 18" rims with 225/45/18 tires and i just put them on recently and the steering wheel shakes when i reached 60 so i took them to pepboys figured it needed to be re-balance and after i did so took it for a test drive the car shakes even more...i had these rims since last year and i dont recall it shaking like this...any help would be great. thanks.
Tires can suffer from shake even when balanced. Issues could be a bent rim, out of round tire, a tire ply that is separating, etc. Might try a store that can take the time to inspect the tire/rim combo for problems and not just put it on the balance machine.
Are these the same rims and tires as last year, how did you store them over winter.

Control Arm Bushings or engine mounts. I say this only because I am experiencing the same problem with my 97 540i. Only happens between 45 and 50, does not happen all the time and some times shakes quite violently sometimes very little. I did a search on this site. In the search this thread box above, type steering wheel vibration and hit enter you will get about 4 responses. Third one down describes something similar to what you noticed.

yea they are the same rims/tires i stored them in my shed over the winter all standing up. it wasnt shaking so bad before when i hit 60 but after taking it to pepboys it shakes even more now its annoying. they also rotated my tires took the 2 back put them in the front and front in the back and the tire on the right front side is new because i replaced it last year because of a bubble so i dont know if they could effect it because the tread is still new or what.
lol wow im an idiot, i took my rims off and when i put them back on i forgot the hub-centric rings. so i put them on today and took the car out for a test drive no more shaking.
